Svou přítomností ovlivňuje geomorfologické struktury, půdní parametry, fyzikálně-chemické podmínky a rostlinná i živočišná společenstva.
Dwarf pine (Pinus mugo) never occurred naturally in the eastern High Sudetes Mts (Králický Sněžník, Hrubý Jeseník; the Czech Republic) due to the specific postglacial development. Unique (sub)alpine communities formed as a consequence of the specific conditions during Holocene. In the Hrubý Jeseník Mts, dwarf pine was planted for the first time at the end of the 19th century and it gradually spread in the treeline ecotone. Its presence affects geomorphological structures, soil parameters, physicochemical conditions, plant and animal communities. These negative impacts is the reason for its gradual removal, which was initiated in the most naturally valuable places. The effects of the polycormone clearcut and the restoration of alpine communities are the subject of monitoring at the Keprník hill area where successional changes are assessed. Successional development has been documented by comparing the vegetation on plots after the clearcut, dwarf pine stands, and alpine grasslands since 2009. Restoration of alpine communities after dwarf pine removal is affected by the dwarf pine legacy, and environmental conditions, including anthropogenic impact and climate changes. The clearcut plots still show features that clearly distinguish them from the alpine plantations, but also from the target communities. Subsequent management with an emphasis on the protection of the most valuable phenomena accompanied by long-term monitoring of development is highly recommended for faster recovery of alpine communities after the removal of dwarf pine.
