Objev nových jeskyní v západních Krkonoších je výsledkem systematického průzkumu této oblasti prováděného speleology ČSS ZO 5-01 Bozkov. Jeskyně „Netopýří mlýn“ patří svojí délkou téměř 60 m k nejdelším jeskyním této oblasti. Pozornost si zasluhují rovněž sintrové výplně, především ve formě stalaktitů. Obě nové jeskyně jsou nadějné na další prolongaci, která by mohla přinést nové poznatky o krasu na Rokytnicku.

In 1997 the group of cavers of the Czech Speleological Society from Bozkov discovered two new caves. Both caves are situated in a rocky slope of the Jizera valley near the village of Dolní Rokytnice in the western part of the Giant Mts. Caves are developed in unsquared lens of crystalline limestones which are the part of the largest occurrence of carbonates rocks and erlans near Rokytnice nad Jizerou.
The entrance of the cave Netopýří mlýn (”Bat Mill”) is situated approximately 4 m above the Jizera River, 465 m a.s.l. The entrance part of the cave has a character of meander and is 9 m long. The second part of the cave ”main passage” is 23 m long and 6 m wide. The eastern of this part is closed by stony debris with calcareous sinter. In the centre of the main passage is opened a lateral hall with a lake. The lake is unsquared shape 6 m in diameter. The level of the underground water is approximately on the same level as the level of the Jizera River and during summer 1997 varied in high of 1 m.
The cave with its length 60 m pertains to the largest caves in this region. The more remarkable there is the decoration, such as stalactites and sinter crusts.
The second cave “V náhonu” is situated 50 m to the south. It is a 15 m long simple passage, which is predetermined by steep joints E-W.
The new discovered caves are the first mark of existence of a larger karst system in this area.
