Analýza říční sítě Krkonoš z hlediska geologického a zvláště geomorfologického spolu s podrobným terénním průzkumem v kombinaci s vyhodnocením digitálního modelu terénu (LiDAR) umožnily zjistit řadu nových detailních informací o klauzách a upřesnit jejich počet a konkrétní polohu.
Problems of log rafting in the rivers and streams in the Krkonoše Mts (the Giant Mts) are often issues discussed in the literature, especially in connection with the demands of the Kutná Hora silver mines, as well as fundamental changes which it brought to the nature and character of local settlements in the Krkonoše Mts. Log rafting was inseparably connected with the building of splash dams, without which log rafting would be impossible in the little aqueous local streams. The main approach to this theme has so far been historical, which led often to relatively one-sided or even wrong conclusions, especially in regards to the number and locations of splash dams and their current state. A geographical and especially geomorphological analysis of the Krkonoše Mts drainage system, together with a detailed field study in combination with use of a digital terrain model (LiDAR), allowed us to discover many new details about the splash dams and to specify both their number and their accurate location. The results also showed differences in the utilization of the splash dams and made it possible to create their typology. On the other hand, comparison of all up to now published knowledge (from maps and literature) and realistically discovered facts found some discrepancies between them, thus questions about the existence of splash dams still remain open.
