Jednoznačné a transparentní rozhodování má zásadní význam pro dlouhodobý úspěch každého ochranářského projektu.
Clear and transparent decision-making is fundamental to the long-term success of any conservation management project. These decisions include (i) identifying the habitats and species that should be prioritised for management and monitoring resources, (ii) listing these habitats and species in priority order and (iii) identifying the most important locations for carrying out the managment. These should be dispassionate decisions, ideally made on the basis of a logical process and not influenced by personal bias. Having identified the priority habitats and species and their current core locations, we then need to consider the most appropriate conservation strategy for ensuring that they can persist into the medium and long-term future, or risk our management actions being a reletatively ineffective, one-off, event. Objective method for prioritisation of habitats and species and three alternative conservation strategies for conservation of particular localities at the landscape level are presented and the respective advantages and disadvantages are discussed. If available, existing survey data is an important source of confidence when making these decisions.
