Based on 3,760 specimens of Symphyta, we recorded 281 species in the study area (Xyelidae - 1, Pamphiliidae - 18, Argidae - 10, Cimbicidae - 6, Diprionidae - 8, Tenthredinidae - 230, Siricidae - 4, Cephidae - 4) and 240 of these were recorded within the actual borders of the Krkonoše (Giant Mts) National Park with 86 of these (32.5 %) found in the subalpine and alpine zones above the upper tree line. Three species are classified as eudominant - Dolerus aeneus (25.5 %), Tenthredopsis nassata (13.7 %) and Cephalcia arvensis (10.2 %). Among the arctic- alpine species, Pristiphora trochanterica was dominant (5.2 %). Xyela obscura, Dolerus truncatus, Heterarthrus fruticicolum, Pachynematus smithae, Pristiphora alpestris, Pristiphora concolor, Pristiphora lativentris, Pristiphora trochanterica and Tenthredo nigripleuris are recorded from the Czech Republic for the first time. Species associated with arborescent plants represent a significant portion of the total sample: Salix (43 spp.), Picea (26), Betula and Alnus (17) and Pinus mugo (10). Biogeographical conditions and influence of the anemo-orographic systems are discussed.
