Souhrn anglicky:
In Opera Corcontica 47 - Supplementum, Vacek and Jeník published the article “Natural Layering of the European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) in the alpine forest-limit´s ecotone of the Giant Mountains.” In that article, the authors describe a - in their opinion primary - finding of natural layering of branches and development of vegetative offsprings in beech, not only in this Czech locality but even in all of Europe. The information presented as a unique and until now not known phenomenon is not correct and confuses the reader. Layering and polycormonal growth in beech on the given locality in the Krkonoše Mts. was described already by FANTA (1981) and compared with similar situations in two other Central European mountain ranges - the Swiss Alps and Les Vosges/France. Based on the above mentioned article of FANTA (1981), this article corrects Vacek´s and Jeník´s assumption. It also provides broader information about the occurrence of polycormonal growth forms in beech on the alpine timberline in various European mountains and vegetative reproduction in beech, whereupon coppice management in various parts of Europe is established. The given information is based on the author´s own research results, data from the literature and are completed by various personal observations. A second step in desinformation in this matter - in this case on the international level - was taken by VACEK & HEJCMAN (2012). In this case, they present the original publication of FANTA (1981) well among the references, but with an uncorrect quotation - as published in the journal Plant Ecology, not
in Vegetatio. Herewith, the publication becomes undetectable for other scientists interested in
the matter.
