For several years, European larch (Larix decidua Mill.) has been used as the pioneer forest tree species for the conversion of the species composition at the lower mountain belt in the Karkonosze National Park. Beech seedlings are planted under the canopy of older larch trees (few years old). Seedlings growing together with larch are under the protection against the unfavourable abiotic and biotic factors (e.g. wild games). This paper presents the preliminary estimation of this conversion method on the base of two stands. Conclusions are based on the linear correlation between growth parameters of larch trees as well as the locations under the crowns and growth parameters and degree of damages of beech seedlings caused by games. The dependence of the growth and degree of the seedlings' damages was not stated on the location of seedlings under the canopy as well as on the features of larch trees. Relationships are not clear and they are different for each of the analyzed stands. The applied method of planting of beech seedlings under the larch canopy limited the damages caused by games to econimically tolerable levels.
Sadzonki rosnące wraz przedplonem korzystają z ochrony przed niekorzystnymi czynnikami abiotycznymi i biotycznymi (zwierzyną).
