The artificial spruce stands at the lower mountain zone in the Karkonosze Mts require the conversion of the species composition. The experimental method of the conversion using beech seedlings planted in groups under the thinned spruce canopy has been applied in the Karkonosze National Park for several years. This paper describes the preliminary assessment of this method on the basis of two stands. Conclusions are based on the linear correlations between the densities of seedling groups with growth parameters and degree of damages of beech seedlings. Observed results prove the dependence of beech seedlings' growth on the size of seedling growing places within the group as well as the degree of the seedlings' damages on the area and density of biogroups. However, results are different in both stands. This paper confirms the usefulness of group planting method to the spruce stand conversion under the large pressure of herbivores.
Praca potwierdza przydatność metody grupowych nasadzeń do przebudowy drzewostanów świerkowych w warunkach dużej presji roślinożerców.
