Během jednodenní exkurze začátkem července 2008 byly v Schustlerově zahrádce v Labském dole v nadmořské výšce 1040 - 1200 m zjištěny hálky způsobené 21 druhy organizmů na 16 druzích hostitelských rostlin. Z toho 16 hálek je způsobeno hálkotvorným hmyzem, a to 13 druhy bejlomorek (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), květilkou Chirosia betuleti (Diptera: Anthomyiidae), pilatkou Pontania bridgmanii (Hymenoptera: Tenthredinidae) a motýlem Argyresthia semifusca (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae), čtyři hálky roztoči z čeledi vlnovníkovitých (Acarina, Eriophyidae) a jedna hálka houbovým organizmem Taphrina padi (Fungi, Taphrinales, Taphrinaceae). Zjištěná diverzita hálkotvorných organizmů dotvrzuje dosud známé biogeografické zvláštnosti a pozoruhodný ekologický charakter Schustlerovy zahrádky.
Altogether 21 types of plant galls have been collected on 16 host plant species in the Schustler Garden, a renowned sub-alpine locality of the Labský Důl valley, the Czech side of the Giant Mountains. The research took place at an elevation between 1040 - 1200 m a.s.l., in luxuriant tall-herb and woody vegetation, which is a product of outstanding environmental factors acting in the lee of dominant winds on a snow avalanche ridden slope. Among the new findings 16 galls are caused by insects, four galls by eriophyid mites and one gall by a fungus. The gall-inducing insects include 13 gall midge species (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) and also Chirosia betuleti (Diptera: Anthomyiidae), Pontania bridgmanii (Hymenoptera: Tenthredinidae) and Argyresthia semifusca (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae). The single species of fungus is Taphrina padi (Fungi, Taphrinales, Taphrinaceae). Eight species of the Cecidomyiidae, viz. Contarinia sorbi, Dasineura daphnes, Dasineura irregularis, Dasineura kiefferiana and Semudobia betulae, are the first records on the Czech side of the range, including a further three species, so far undescribed, occurring on leaves of Aconitum napellus and Polygonum bistorta, and on flower buds of Sorbus sudeticus. The known Cecidomyiidae on the Czech side of the Giant Mts. presently include 84 species; seven species reach in the Schustler Garden their upper limits of altitudinal distribution in the Czech Republic, while two alpine and subalpine species, viz. Jaapiella vacciniorum and Dasineura daphnes, meet here with gall midge species largely distributed in the piedmont areas at lower elevation. The diversity of galls confirms the biogeographic pattern and environmental complexity of the Schustler Garden - a conservation hot-spot of the Krkonoše National Park.
