The two described subalpine mires have not been reported previously from the Polish part of the Eastern Giant Mts. (Karkonosze in Polish) and have been omitted from the published maps of their actual vegetation. One mire is located on Równia pod niek peneplaine near Spalona Stranica (50°44'32”N; 15°42”38”E; 1435 m a.s.l.). and the other one is located on Mt. Kopa (50°44'45”N; 15°43'39”E; 1368 m a.s.l.). According to their topographic position, the former is typical ridge mire which have been developed exclusively in the flat parts of the mountain-top area, while the latter is sloping mire. Both mires are small objects covering an area of about 1.50 ha, with peat layer thick up to 1.8 m. The vegetation of both mires is co-dominated by two associations: Pino mugo-Sphagnetum and Sphagno robusti-Empetretum hermaphroditi in open, dry habitats. Their actual vegetation indicates truly ombrotrophic conditions.
