The article presents results of detailed survey of periglacial block covers carried out in the western part of the Giant Mts. above the timberline, i.e. in the upper parts of slopes and on the summit plateau. The methods of investigations comprised detailed geomorphologic mapping and complex measurements of weathering grade of rock material. The data lead to an hypothesis emphasizing the role of frost weathering and cementing ice in the formation and downslope movement of debris covers.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki szczegółowych badań peryglacjalnych pokryw blokowych występujących na stokach w zachodniej części Karkonoszy powyżej górnej granicy lasu. W trakcie prac terenowych wykorzystano metodę kartowania geomorfologicznego oraz kompleksowe pomiary stopnia zwietrzenia materiału skalnego. Wyniki tych badań pozwoliły na sformułowanie hipotezy wiążącej powstanie głazowo-blokowych pokryw Karkonoszy z procesami wietrzenia mrozowego i rolą lodu gruntowego w transporcie materiału skalnego.
