Deep soil profiles were investigated magnetically in the region of the Krkonoše National Park. Magnetic susceptibility, thermomagnetic analysis, acquisition of remanent magnetisation and hysteresis curves were measured in laboratory on samples from individual soil horizons. The uppermost layer, characterized by enhanced value of magnetic susceptibility, can be reliably identified in all the soil profiles. This layer contains dominantly magnetite phase of anthropogenic origin. Correlation between magnetic susceptibility and concentration of some heavy metals was found in the uppermost soil horizons. Our results indicate that magnetic method of imissions mapping can be used also in areas with generally lower pollution level.
