In the years 2001-2002 on the area of the Karkonosze National Park the detailed forest inventory was conducted. During this inventory the circular plots (200 x 300 meters) were established on which very detailed measurements were done. Collected data were put into computer database and next visualized on the numeric map of the park. In this paper the authors present the condition of the natural regeneration against a background of the forest habitat types, potential forest vegetation, composition of the tree species in the main stand layer and the altitude above the sea level. The results show that percentage of the basic species in lower and herbs storeys in respective habitat types and the forest associations is satisfactory. The significant change in species composition within the mountain mixed forest was observed. The percentage of spruce decreased there from 80 % in the upper stand layer to 24 % in herbs and lower storeys while the percentage of the beech increased from about 10 % in upper stand layer to over 40% in lower forest stand one. The percentage of the fir reached more than 3 % in lower parts of the stands and 0,003 % in upper forest layer. The changes in species composition within the upper Sudetic spruce forest are also favourable. The less favorable changes occurred within the mountain mixed coniferous forest where the Norway spruce is still predominant species. The analysis of spatial distribution of the natural regeneration show the uneven distribution of the young generation. The biggest disproportions occur within the mountain mixed forest. The natural regeneration of the beech is satisfactory in the vicinity of Jagniątków, Chojnik and Szklarka waterfall whereas near Karpacz and Szklarska Poręba the percentage of this species is insufficient. On the whole area of the mountain mixed coniferous forest the Norway spruce is prevailing species while silver fir and beech are in the shortage. On the habitat of upper Sudetic spruce forest the percentage of spruce regeneration decreases with an increase of elevation and it is the lowest in the belt of timberline.
Udział świerka zmalał tam z 80 % w górnej warstwie drzewostanów do 24 % w warstwie nalotów i podrostów. Zdecydowanie wzrósł natomiast udział buka z około 10 % w górnej warstwie drzewostanów do ponad 40 % w warstwie nalotów i podrostów.
