Významným přírodním fenoménem oblasti nad alpinskou hranicí lesa Krkonoš jsou ledovcové kary - jámy. Mají specifické přírodní podmínky, zejména geomorfologické, které ovlivnily rovněž antropogenní zásahy. Práce se na základě vyhodnocení historické dokumentace zabývá společnou charakteristikou lidské činnosti v osmi jámách na české, jižní straně Krkonoš a specifikami v každé z nich.
Glacial cirques - hollows are an important natural phenomenon in the area above the alpine forest limit in the Giant Mts. They have specific natural conditions, especially the geomorphological ones, which were also influenced by anthropogenic activities. Based on the evalution of historical documentation the paper deals with common characteristics of human activites in eight hollows on the Czech southern part of the Giant Mts. and with the specificities of each of these hollows.
