This paper contains results of mapping of important floristic elements in three localities of the subalpine belt in the eastern Giant Mts. The field mapping was carried out during years 19951996. The localities (north-facing slopes of Studniční hora 59.5 ha, Úpa peatbog 11.5 ha, Stříbrné návrší locality 53 ha) have been destined for reforestation by dwarf pine (Pinus mugo). Dwarf pine coverage, human influence (e.g. paths, bunkers, other buildings), wallows, environmental elements (streams, water reservoirs), grass dominant species (according to homogeneity 15), and frequency of 16 protected, endangered and important autochthonous plant species were mapped. Results are a background to other monitoring. The places with a high frequency and diversity of protected/endangered species relating to occurrences of dominant grasses are possible to determine. Recommendation to dwarf pine planting and cutting was made on the base of map comparing and regarding to another research in the tundra ecosystems of the Giant Mts. A reduction of extent of the dwarf pine stands would be necessary in places with potential extinction of protected species.
