Some mires, where specific tasks had to be solved in their sediments, became the objects of palaeobotanical research towards the end of the 90ies. The results are presented in these proceedings. The goal of new palaeobotanical research of sediments of the Pančava Mire was the attempt to disclose the evidence on the extent of Pinus mugo distribution in this locality and in its surroundings during the past periods of the Holocene. With respect to expected difficulties associated with fulfilling such a task, the further goal of the study was to find out of what origin are the palsa-like structures present in the area of the oldest mire of the Giant Mts. The sediment of the palsa-like structure No 1 was selected for this purpose.
