Of the nearly 300 ha peat bogs occurring in the Izerskie Mountains, until recently only about 45 ha were protected by low. In order to protect the peat bogs biodiversity and their inanimate nature, new reserve “Torfowiska Doliny Izery” was established in July 2000. Thus, the area with peat bogs under protection extended to about 530 ha. The natural vegetation of these peat bogs contains numerous rare and threatened plant species, such as Pinus x rhaetica, Betula nana, Drosera intermedia, Scheuchzeria palustris, Lycopodiella inundata and Salix repens, as well as rare birds, e.g. Tetrao tetrix and Grus grus. It is also planned to establish in the nearest future a net of ecological lands with the purpose to protect small remainders of the formerly extensive peat bogs.
Jeszcze do niedawna spośród prawie 300 ha torfowisk występujących w Górach Izerskich ochronie podlegało jedynie ok. 45 ha. W lipcu 2000 r. powstał nowy rezerwat „Torfowiska Doliny Izery“ w celu ochrony bioróżnorodności i przyrody nieożywionej torfowisk. Dzięki temu w chwili obecnej obszar chroniący torfowiska na tym terenie powiększył się do ok. 530 ha. W naturalnych zbiorowiskach tych torfowisk rośnie wiele rzadkich i chronionych roślin, np. Pinus x rhaetica, Betula nana, Drosera intermedia, Scheuchzeria palustris, Lycopodiella inundata i Salix repens, oraz ptaków, np. Tetrao tetrix i Grus grus. W niedalekiej przyszłości planuje się również utworzenie sieci użytków ekologicznych chroniących resztki dużych niegdyś kompleksów torfowiskowych.
