Vegetace významnějších lokalit bude mapována i pomocí technologie GPS, což umožní s odstupem let zjistit i dlouhodobější trendy změn vegetace. V souvislosti s přípravou nové lesnické typologické mapy byla přednostně zmapována krkonošská arkto-alpínská tundra. Mapování by mělo být dokončeno do r. 2003. Probíhají jednání s polskými partnery s cílem připravit k tisku společnou geobotanickou mapu celých Krkonoš.
KRNAP Administration has started field mapping of actual non-forest vegetation of the Giant Mountains which has not been realized till this time, on the contrary to the forest vegetation. For the polish slopes of the Giant Mts. there are two geobotanical maps elaborated by Matuszkiewicz in 1967 and 1975. Orthofotomaps are utilised for present field work, basic mapping unit is the syntaxon on the alliance level; approximatelly 30 basic mapping units (alliances) from the submontane to the alpine zone. GPS technology is used for mapping of the most valuable plots, which allows to evaluate the longterm vegetation changes. Vegetation mapping started on the territory of the Giant Mts.' arctic-alpine tundra within the context of new prepared forest typological maps and field work will continue untill 2003. The main idea is preparation of the common geobotanical map of the Giant Mountains together with Polish botanists.
