Twenty one water bodies of the Pančavské rašeliniště peat bog and Úpské rašeliniště peat bog were observed during a two-year investigation of algal flora from these mires. The research concentrated on the relationship between algal communities and environmental variables (pH, conductivity, water temperature) and morphology parameters of the pools (area, depth, shadowing, type of the bottom, flow). The chemical analysis of the water samples from the Úpské rašeliniště peat bog was accomplished twice in 1999. The factors most influencing the diversity of algae were pH, shadowing and type of the bottom. The relation between pH a concentration of calcium ion was not proved.
