Mapování hnízdního rozšíření ptáků v letech 1991-94 poskytlo podklady k hodnocení ornitologické významnosti Krkonoš. Z hlediska výskytu a ochrany ptáků se mezi ornitologicky nejvýznamnější oblasti řadí alpinské vrcholy, ledovcové kary a subarktická rašeliniště, bukové porosty a komplex mokřadních biotopů v severním podhůří a mozaika lesních a lučních biotopů v jihovýchodní části Krkonoš.
Atlas mapping of breeding bird distribution in 1991-94 provided data to evaluate an importance of the Giant Mts. from the viewpoint of the occurrence and protection of birds. Following habitats and areas rank among those of the highest ornithological importance: alpine tops, glacial cirques and subarctic peatbogs on ridges (areas with the strictest rules of nature conservation: 1st zone of a national park, core zone of a biosphere reserve), beech forests and complex of wetland habitats in the northern foothill, and a mosaic of forest and meadow habitats in the south-eastern foothill of the Giant Mts.
