Magnetit (Fe3O4) a maghemit (-Fe2O3) patří k nejrozšířenějším antropogenním ferimagnetikům a jejich identifikace v různých ekosystémech umožňuje vymezit oblasti s vyšší úrovní znečištění pevným spadem.
Recently, rapid and inexpensive (proxy) methods of outlining areas exposed to increased pollution by atmospheric particulates of industrial origin have been developed by scientists in various fields. One of them, soil magnetometry, seems to be a suitable tool, at least in some cases. This method is based on the knowledge that ferrimagnetic particles of anthropogenic origin are deposited and accumulated in top soil layers. Magnetite or maghemite ranks among the main anthropogenic ferrimagnetics and their identification in various ecosystems can contribute to outlining of areas exposed to higher pollution impact. Ombrotrophic peat-bogs are suitable collectors of dust pollution where the dust deposition may be preserved for a long time. Additionaly very low concentrations of anthropogenic magnetic particles can be identified. Results of magnetic measurements on 7 peat-bog profiles are presented in the contribution.
