This new assessment of avalanche cadastre in the Czech part of the Krkonoše (Giant) Mts. is submitted only 7 years after the last evaluation. Information about 703 avalanches between years 1962 and 1998 has been compiled. Each avalanche area is, on the basis of 36-year-long observations, records and experiences of the avalanche specialist, Mr. Valerian Spusta explained by: description of its natural conditions, photographs with superimposed indications of avalanche paths, a table of all avalanche fallen on each avalanche path, descriptions of each avalanche based on international classification. We introduced the codes A5 (cornice fall), K (height of crown - rupture - face), L (width of crown - rupture - face), M (width of avalanche), N (length of avalanche), O (depth of avalanche). With regard to the high environmental value of avalanche paths, most of them are designated to be within the 1. (core) zone of KRNAP, and paradoxically, the natural development of avalanches needs to be protected. Avalanche activity and its changes are one of the indicators of global climate changes. One of the consequences of global climate changes is the increase in the occurrence of slush-flow avalanches − i.e. flowing mixtures of water and snow. The first and only slush-flow avalanche recorded on the Czech part of Krkonoše Mts. was on 19 April 1980.
